COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s back to school today around Branch County and most of the region following yesterday’s cancellation of classes because of the major winter storm that slammed the area over the weekend with up to a foot and a half of snow. And while the county and city road crews have cleared the way for motorists to get around, sidewalks are a different matter. Many are still buried and that can mean youngsters headed to school could be walking in the street. It’s also bitterly cold this morning with temperatures near zero and double-digit below zero wind chill readings. So authorities are urging everyone to keep the kids safety first in mind on this day after the county’s first big snow event of the year.
In the city of Coldwater, street crews early this morning beginning at 2 am started to remove the snow from the downtown parking lanes on US 12. They expect it will take a majority of the next two days to complete the job of clearing the sidewalks and parking lots.
