COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners are keeping a conservative approach on spending to begin the year, deciding yesterday at their work meeting to deny a request for added work hours in the office of the Friend of the Court. The extra hours would impact 4 non-union employees who right now put in 38-and-a-half hours a week and that would be increased to 40 hours. The SEIU union workers at the Friend of the Court are currently set at 37-and-a-half hours a week.
Commissioners are concerned that the county’s share of monies allocated to operate the court from their general fund could contribute to deficit spending. The County Board will make a final decision on the issue at their regular meeting next Tuesday.
