COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Dates have been set in Coldwater for an open house and the opening day for the public to use the new Dr Robert W. Browne Aquatic Center located just north of Legg Middle School. Swimming lessons at the Aquatic Center for Coldwater High School and Middle School students started last Tuesday along with lifeguard classes.
The open house is scheduled for Thursday, February 26th from 6 pm-7:30 pm, with the aquatic center then open for the public to use for the first time on Monday, March 2, 2015. The pool will be in operation seven days a week, 6am to 7pm Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm Saturday and 10am to 3pm Sunday. Coldwater City residents are eligible for a 50% discount on all pool fees.
The Aquatic Center and the expanded Heritage Park Recreation facility were made possible as part of a $14.6 million gift to the City of Coldwater from Coldwater native Dr. Robert W. Browne. The expanded recreation center opened in mid January.
An agreement between the City of Coldwater and the Coldwater School District calls for the school system to operate and maintain the aquatic center while being responsible for capital costs. The city owns the building and property while leasing it back to the school system with the first agreement a 15-year lease.
