COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater school officials and community members have begun their effort to get information out on the two ballot proposals that voters will face on May 5th. The school’s Bond Advisory Committee met this week to further review the proposals and get their first look at some marketing materials for the election.
Proposal One would allow for the construction of a new 4th and 5th grade building near the current high school, as well as deal with safety, security, electrical, mechanical, and technology upgrades at all the schools. Upgrades to athletic facilities are also included in that proposal. The second proposal would add a 900 seat auditorium at the high school.
Superintendent Dr Tina Kerr says the theme of the campaign is “Right Plan, Right Time”, which means there is no better time to do the work.
At 2.66 mills, Kerr says Coldwater’s current millage rate is the lowest among comparable districts in the area. The current rate in Three Rivers is 6.10 mills, it’s 6.88 mills in Marshall, and 8.35 mills in Sturgis.
39% of total bond package would be for construction of the new elementary and other elementary upgrades. 20% is for high school grades, and 19% would be for the new auditorium.
