LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Delegates from Branch County and around the state will be in Lansing Saturday for the Michigan Republican Party’s state convention. They’ll elect new leadership for the party, as current chairman Bobby Schostak decided not to run for reelection. National Committeewoman Ronna Romney McDaniel is the frontrunner for the position.
MIRS News Service did an email survey of delegates and alternates, and found that 66% do not support the plan on the May 5th ballot to raise the state sales from 6% to 7% to pay for road repairs. Only 22% of those polled supported the proposal, with 11% indicating they didn’t have a position.
As far as a possible Republican presidential candidate, 43% favored Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.
Local party chairman Dennis Armstrong will be leading the Branch County contingent at the state convention.
