COLDWATER (WTVB) – A very authentic sounding scam that struck bank customers earlier this winter in Branch County is back and it uses various platforms in an effort to rip you off and gain access to your personal financial information. On Wednesday, Century Bank & Trust in Coldwater issued an alert for you to be aware that fraudulent phone calls are going out in the local area telling residents that their debit cards have been locked and the scammers say they need you to provide your debit card numbers to correct the problem. Officials say do not enter any information on your phone to this attempted fraud. And the perpetrators are doing their dirty deeds on land lines and smart phones and we even heard of someone being targeted through their OnStar system. Also, it’s not just Century Bank customers who are at risk. If you have a debit card, with any financial outlet, this scam wants to steal your money. If you have entered any information to such a call, please contact your bank immediately to make a report.
