COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – If the turnout at the open house Thursday night is any indication, interest is very high in the new Dr. Robert W. Browne Aquatic Center in Coldwater. Hundreds showed up to receive a tour of facility and get information on rates and memberships.
The pool complex opens for daily public swimming on Monday, March 2. The facility includes an Olympic competition pool along with a smaller, warm water exercise pool. Coldwater high school and middle school students have been using the center for swimming lessons as well as for life guard classes since earlier this month.
The City of Coldwater owns the pool facility and has a 15-year lease with the Coldwater School District, which will operate and manage the swimming programs with a $50,000 yearly contribution from the City. The project was made possible by a nearly $15 million gift from Dr. Browne, a Coldwater native, who also funded a major expansion of the city’s Heritage Park Recreation Center.
