COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There shouldn’t be much doubt now that this month is likely to go down in the record books as the most frigid ever February in Branch County. A third of the month has featured below zero temperatures with another sub-zero morning in the forecast for Saturday. It was a record low of minus-14 today in Coldwater, breaking the previous mark for February 27th of 10 below established back in 1934. Thankfully, there was no wind chill this morning as calm conditions prevailed.
The predicted low for early Saturday morning is minus-8. The record low for February 28th was set just last year at minus-10. January was bad enough to begin 2015 in Branch County with 5 days when the mercury dipped below zero and we should double that this month.
By the way, just north of us, Marshall plunged to 21-below this morning. It appears Grayling, in northern lower Michigan, has the lowest reading in the state Friday at minus-27.
