COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater has joined the list of towns around the area asking residents to run a trickle of water from their faucets to prevent frozen pipes. The news release issued Monday by the Coldwater B-P-U reminded homeowners you don’t have to drip hot water, cold water will work just fine.
The BPU told us today there have been 5 recorded instances in the city of residential frozen pipes so far this winter. Some cities in the region, including Battle Creek, have adopted a policy of adjusting the bills of those customers who let their faucets drip and not charge them for the water they trickle. However, at the BPU, they say the costs should be very minimal and most won’t even notice a difference. However, if anyone has an issue, they can contact the utility and the BPU says it will provide compensation if the matter is directly related.
The advisory from the local utility comes as the weather forecast is predicting early morning low temperatures on Thursday and Friday of zero or even a few degrees below zero
