LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak and Sheriff John Pollack have been outspoken critics of the bill but Governor Snyder this signed a controversial measure doing away with local gun boards. Right now, a panel including local law enforcement officials review the applicants for concealed weapons permits, providing local knowledge about particular personalities in the review process. The change will assign the processing to local clerks, and screening to State Police.
Supporters say the elimination of the gun boards will streamline the process but opponents say some people will get guns that should probably not have them. The bill will take effect December 1, 2015.
