COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater’s Heritage Park swimming pool will be open this summer for its 41st year of operations, even though the new Dr. Robert W. Browne Aquatic Center just across the street on Western Avenue in Coldwater is now in business after opening its doors to the public last month. Future operations of the pool at Heritage Park will be a question mark though following recent promising developments pointing to the possibility of a splash park at Heritage Park.
Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer announced to the City Council Monday night that both the Coldwater Noon and the Coldwater Sunrise Rotary Clubs have each committed $75,000 for the proposed splash park, which would be constructed in the pool area. The City is expected to apply for a Michigan Department of Natural Resources grant of up to $100,000 for the splash park, which has an estimated price tag of $325,000.
The City of Coldwater owns the Aquatic Center and the property on which it’s located north of Legg Middle School. The City has a 15-year lease with the Coldwater School District for the school system to operate and manage the swimming programs at the Center with a $50,000 yearly contribution from the City.
