QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, the spring schedule for Quincy starts today, pending weather and field conditions, with varsity softball and Girls soccer. The softball season opener is at home against Addison while the soccer match is on the road against Olivet.
The final week of the Boys basketball season tips off tonight with the MHSAA state tournament quarterfinals. The Elite Eight matchups include Hanover-Horton in Class C with the Comets taking on Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central at Ann Arbor Huron. One other area team still alive in March Magic is Otsego, which plays tonight in Class B at Marshall against Milan.
This year’s Hal Schram Mr. Basketball Award for the top player in the state goes to Michigan State bound Deyonta Davis of Muskegon High. The 6-10 senior forward averages 18.5 points, 16 rebounds and 6 blocks a game for his Big Reds team that takes on Lansing Everett in tonight’s Class A quarterfinals at Lansing Eastern. Davis makes it back-to-back Mr. Basketball honors for Muskegon with the 2014 award going to Deshaun Thrower, who played this season at Stony Brook University in New York.
