COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Did you get the rude awakening over the weekend? Michigan State Police officials have no regrets about sending an alert to every cell phone within 200 miles of Bancroft at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, March 28 for an Amber Alert. That put Branch County in the notification circle. Bancroft is located northeast of Lansing. The loud message woke up thousands, initially alarming many of them.
MSP Amber Alert coordinator Detective Sergeant Sarah Krebs says the six-year-old child was recovered safely because of it. It was the first time such a wireless message had been sent by the State Police post in Flint and Krebs says they used it to get out the information about the car the girl’s father was believed to be driving.
