WALDRON, MI (WTVB) – Volunteers of all ages abound in the Branch County area and one of the best is 15-year old Kyle Russell of Waldron, a 4-H Member of the Branch County Boots and Jeans 4-H Club. Russell has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a Silver President’s Volunteer Service Award.
Russell is an eight year club member participating in beef, entrepreneurship, creative writing, visual arts, equine and shooting sports projects. The award recognizes Americans who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country. It was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama. Branch County 4-H nominated Kyle Russell for national honors this fall in recognition of his volunteer service.
According to Connie Lange, 4-H Extension Educator, Kyle has volunteered for many activities including the 4-H Proud Equestrian Program, a summer program for children with special needs. The Silver Award organizers say the recipients of these honors demonstrate that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities. They hope putting the spotlight on their volunteer activities will help motivate others to consider how they can also demonstrate civic responsibility.
