COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- Crime in the city of Coldwater is continuing on a downward trend over the past decade and it’s largely in part because of a cooperative attitude between the public and city police. That’s the word from Public Safety Director Mark Bartell, who told the Coldwater City Council last night that the community is eager to offer witness information and it represents a culture of cooperation that his department has been eager to foster and they hope to continue to encourage so the crime numbers in the city can remain manageable.
Bartell also said the greatest number of training hours for his officers are in the area of the use of force and officer safety. Bartell said Coldwater is like virtually all of the communities of its size in Michigan and no longer can hold fast to the image of just a small community.
He told the council they need to know that serious violence is something his officers may encounter at any time and so they train for that and Bartell is confident they can be ready to deal with the situation as it arises.
