QUINCY,MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, yesterday in track, Quincy hosted a Big Eight double dual with Union City and Concord and it was Concord sweeping to victory in both the boys and girls meets. In the boys action, Union City was second and Quincy third while for the girls, Quincy was runner-up with Union City in third place.
Double winners in the boys meet included Jonathan Purvis of Quincy in the shot put and discus while from Union City, Thomas Anderson finished first in the long jump and 400 meter dash and Aaron Watson won the 100 and 200 meter dash. In the girls meet, for Quincy, Kayti Hawkins won the shot put and discus while Kati Spalding finished first in the 100 meter hurdles and pole vault.
Also in track, Bronson’s boys and girls teams defeated White Pigeon in a BCS East meet at Bronson. The Vikings won the Boys meet 91-40. Double winners included Marcus Broom in the mile and two mile run, Eric Toledo in the shot put and discus, and Jordan Alger in the high jump and long jump. Bronson won the Girls meet 76-55. Maryselva Albarran was a double winner in the 220 and 440 yard dash.
Wednesday in baseball, the Coldwater freshman team earned a split at Gull Lake, winning the opener 3-2 over the previously undefeated Gull Lake JV squad. Alex Everett picked up the victory on the mound for Coldwater while on offense, Oliver Winter, Logan Lambertson, and Ethan Wiley each had a hit and an RBI.

Also in baseball and softball, it’s Quincy at Centreville and Bronson at Marshall. In girls soccer tonight, it’s Coldwater at Parma Western while Quincy is at Hanover-Horton. In boys golf, Coldwater is at the Gull Lake Tom Collins Memorial Tournament, Quincy hosts a Big 8 Jamboree at the Bella Vista Golf Course and Bronson plays in a BCS East Jamboree hosted by Cassopolis. And in girls tennis, Coldwater plays at home against Harper Creek.

In middle school sports yesterday, in tennis, the Coldwater “B” team lost 5-3 at home to Parma Western. Winners for the Cardinals were Stuart Sobesky and Mema Yaldo at first and second singles and the third doubles team of Anna Lowder and Andrea Maldonado.
