COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s Election Day in Michigan and a strong turnout at the polls is possible today in Branch County, especially in the Coldwater School District, where two bond issues will be decided in addition to the statewide Proposal One ballot issue to fund road repairs. The road proposal would increase Michigan’s sales tax from 6% to 7%.
In the Coldwater School District, Proposal 1 is 2.95 mills for 25 years to generate $46,550,000. There will be upgrades to all the district’s buildings and includes ta replacement for Lakeland Elementary. Proposal 2 is .60 mills for 20 years, generating $10,060,000 for the construction of a 900 seat auditorium.
There is a building and site sinking fund renewal of 3-and-a-half mills for Union City Community Schools. And for county residents who live in the Reading School District of Hillsdale County, there’s a building and site sinking fund 5 year renewal proposal for 1.9 mills. The polls are open from 7a.m. to 8 p.m.
