BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners earlier this year passed a resolution of support and so did the Michigan House and yesterday, the Michigan Senate approved a resolution urging the Pentagon to locate ballistic missiles at Fort Custer. Resolution sponsor Senator Margaret O’Brien of Portage says it will pump three billion dollars into the area’s economy and create temporary and permanent jobs. O’Brien called Ft. Custer a great facility and said we should take advantage of the talent pool in the community as well as the great location. The base would be defensive, firing missiles that would intercept and destroy any missiles aimed our way from Iran or North Korea, should they ever develop the technology. The Pentagon and Congress still hasn’t made up its mind whether we need the base. Three other sites are also vying for the installation.
