UNDATED (WTVB) – Saturday in high school baseball, Bronson won the Maple Valley Wood Bat Classic by beating the host Lions in the championship game 7-2. Tyler Roussey pitched a complete game 4-hitter with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts, while offensively, Brenden Bell was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a sacrifice fly and Coty Bennett went 2-for-3. The Vikings advanced by defeating Wyoming Lee 15-4. Noah Roberts picked up the win by giving up no earned runs with just 1 hit over 5 innings, while Roussey paced the offense by going 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs and Bell added an RBI double. Bronson improves to 9-13.
In softball, Bronson went 1-2 at the at St. Joseph Invitational, losing 5-0 to St. Joe and 9-7 to Stevensville Lakeshore before defeating Coloma 4-1. Against the host school, Bronson could only muster a single from Kelsey Robinson. Kinslea Blouin, Allie Sikorski, and Payton Robinson each went 2-for-3 against Lakeshore, while Hannah Hoover was 2-for-4. Skyler Sobeski took the losses against the Bears and Lancers but did pick up the save against the Comets, as Adyson Lasky went 5 innings to get the win; Lasky and Kelsey Robinson were each 2-for-3. The Vikings’ record stands at 20-7.
In track, Coldwater competed at the Williamston Invitational. Behind another record-setting performance from Logan Targgart, the Cardinal boys placed 6th out of 11 teams with 56 points. Targgart won both the shot put and discus, and with his throw in the shot put of 57′ 6″, he broke the school record that he had set last month by 5 inches. Zach DeMeester was runner-up in the shot, while Connor Covert was 2nd in the discus. Blaze Watson placed 1st in the pole vault. The Coldwater girls finished 11th out of 12 teams with 15 points; the Lady Cardinals were led by Ashley Chase, who finished 3rd in the 100m dash.
In boys golf, Pennfield hosted Coldwater, Quincy, Union City, and 14 other teams in an invitational tournament at Marywood Golf Course. The Cardinals finished runner-up to Marysville with a score of 307, just 1 behind the winning team. Union City finished 16th with a score of 399, while Quincy was 18th with a 493. For the Cardinals, #1 medalist Cam Ruge shot an 82, #2 medalist Nolan Duda had a 78, the best-ball team of Stephan Boston and Nate Waterbury had a 74, and the scramble team of Keagan Dwyer and Nick Galliers had a 73. For the Chargers, #1 medalist had a 102, #2 medalist Brandon Miller had a 113, the best-ball team of Lucas Vaccaro and Davis Fettes had a 91, and the scramble team of Nicholas Collyer and Cole Bowers had a 93. For the Orioles, #1 medalist Noah Shilling had a 108, #2 medalist Kabe Christian had a 147, the best-ball team of Mason Shilling and Trisha Webber had a 125, and the scramble team of Brett Cornell and Josh Fulkuar had a 123.
On today’s schedule, weather permitting: in softball, Coldwater has a makeup doubleheader against Pennfield at the Rotary Softball Complex. In track, Quincy has a double-dual meet against Reading and Athens at Reading, while Union City hosts Jonesville. In girls soccer, Coldwater hosts Harper Creek on Senior Night, while Quincy plays at Jonesville. In boys golf, Bronson is at the BCS Tournament, hosted by Buchanan at Orchard Hills. And in girls tennis, Coldwater is at Sturgis, and Bronson is at Pennfield.
