STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Wet conditions, and the threat of severe weather, caused the cancellation of most of Monday’s high school sports schedule throughout Branch County. For Coldwater, the twice-delayed softball doubleheader against Pennfield has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, May 19, while the Senior Night girls soccer match against Harper Creek will be made up tonight. Coldwater was able to get in its varsity girls tennis match at Sturgis, as it was moved indoors to the Doyle Community Center. The Lady Cardinals fell to the Trojans 7-1, with Coldwater’s lone win coming from Emma Dwyer at #2 Singles.
On Tuesday’s schedule, in addition to makeup girls soccer: in baseball and softball, Coldwater is at Charlotte, Bronson travels to Cassopolis, Quincy hosts Homer, and Union City plays at Reading. In track, Coldwater hosts Parma Western. In boys golf, Quincy and Union City compete in a Big 8 Jamboree hosted by Homer at the Marshall Country Club, while Bronson has a match against Constantine at Island Hills. In girls tennis, Coldwater travels to Western for the completion of the Interstate 8 Tournament, which was interrupted Friday by rain, while Bronson hosts Constantine.
Tuesday on the Coaches Corner, we check in with Quincy softball coach Nick Michael.
