UNDATED (WTVB) – In high school baseball Tuesday, Coldwater swept a doubleheader at Charlotte, winning 10-1 and 7-2. Jordan Butler got a complete-game win in the opener, allowing 5 hits and 9 walks with 14 strikeouts, while Nick Shaw was 3-for-3 hitting with a double, a triple, and 4 RBI. In the nightcap, Sean Printke went 4 innings to pick up the win, giving up just 1 hit with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts, Randall Linton pitched a scoreless 5th with 3 strikeouts, and Brendan Spangler went 2-for-2 hitting with a pair of triples as the Cardinals improve to 19-6 overall, 8-3 in the Interstate 8.
Bronson split a pair at Cassopolis, dropping the opener 4-3 before winning the nightcap 8-4. Daniel McMichael took the hard-luck loss in Game 1, giving up all 4 runs on 7 hits with 5 walks and 8 strikeouts, while Ben Byler was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Cody Bennett was the winning pitcher in Game 2, allowing 7 hits while walking 4 and fanning 3; offensively, Brenden Bell was 2-for-2. The Vikings are now 10-14 overall, 3-5 in the BCS East.
Quincy beat visiting Homer 10-9 in the opener of their scheduled doubleheader. Tyler Powell got the win in relief of starter Hunter Haylett, allowing 8 hits and 11 walks in 6-2/3 innings of work while striking out 4. Jake Jodway was 4-for-4 hitting with a double and a home run. The nightcap was suspended due to darkness with the Trojans leading the Orioles 5-4 in the 4th inning. Quincy improves to 19-10 overall, 8-3 in the Big 8.
Union City swept a twinbill at Reading, 3-0 and 10-9. Seth Bruce threw a complete game 4-hit shutout in the opener with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts; he helped his own cause with a double and a single while Darren Austin scored twice. Austin was the winning pitcher in the nightcap, while Kenyon Stuchell picked up the save; offensively, Stuchell hit a 2-RBI triple and Bruce hit 2 doubles as the Chargers improve to 14-11 overall, 7-5 in the Big 8.
In softball, Coldwater won both ends of their doubleheader at Charlotte, 12-3 and 13-1. Darlene Horn was the winning pitcher in the opener, allowing 4 hits with 5 strikeouts; offensively, Morgan Howard had 2 home runs while Michaela Gillette had a home run and 2 singles. Stacy Guzy picked up the win in the nightcap, allowing 5 hits while striking out 4; Payton Watson was 4-for-5 offensively with 4 singles, and Gillette had another homer and a single as the Cardinals improve to 18-5 overall, 9-2 in the Interstate 8. Coldwater’s JV team picked up 12-2 and 16-6 victories against Charlotte at the Rotary Softball Complex.
Bronson swept to victory at Cassopolis, 12-0 and 10-7. Skyler Sobeski pitched a 5-inning no-hitter in the first game, allowing 1 walk and striking out 10; she helped the Vikings offensively with a 2-RBI double. Adyson Lasky pitched 6-1/3 innings for the win in the nightcap, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits; Sobeske pitched the final 2/3 inning while continuing her hot hitting with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. Bronson improves to 22-7 overall, 8-0 to lead the BCS East.
In track, Coldwater split their meet against Parma Western, with the boys winning 107.7-57.3 and the girls falling 115-37. Blaze Watson was a double winner for the Cardinal boys in the 110m hurdles and the pole vault.
Union City hosted Jonesville in a dual meet rescheduled from Monday. The Charger boys lost to the Comets 83-53, while the Lady Chargers won 85-45. Rachel Wing was a double winner in the discus and shot put, while Hannah Muckel won the 200m dash and teamed up with Holly Christy, Cassie Thorpe, and Emma Hoppe to take the 400 and 800m relays.
In girls soccer, Coldwater picked up their first league win of the season on Senior Night, as they defeated Harper Creek 2-1 in a match rescheduled from Monday. Madison Marsh scored in the 1st half off an assist from Megan Hoath, and Carlee Smoker picked up a penalty kick goal in the 2nd half after Marsh was taken down in the penalty box. The Cardinals outshot the Beavers 13-7, while Shelby Bowers made 5 saves in goal as Coldwater improves to 8-6-2 overall, 1-5 in the Interstate 8. Coldwater also won the JV match by a 5-1 score.
On today’s schedule: In baseball and softball, Union City hosts Centreville. In track, Quincy competes in a double dual against Reading and Athens at Reading, a meet that was rescheduled from Monday. In girls soccer, Coldwater travels to Charlotte. And in boys golf, Bronson is at the Klinger Lake Country Club for the White Pigeon Invitational.

In middle school tennis, the Legg Middle School “B” team lost to Lakeview 6-2. Alison Caswell and Morgan Raskoske earned a victory at #3 doubles, while the #4 doubles team of Brynn Niedzwiecki and Alexis Clemens won by forfeit.
