COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While the Memorial Day weekend is the traditional start to the summer season in Branch County, Monday will also feature a number of observances to remember those who have fallen in service to our country.
In Coldwater, activities will begin with an open house at 7:30 a.m at American Legion Post #52, with ceremonies in the Four Corners Park downtown at 8:30 am. A parade will head west on Chicago Street, with the Lost At Sea Dedication at 9:40 am and another ceremony at the old portion of Oak Grove Cemetery north of U.S.12. The guest speaker will be Dr Ed Lake of Coldwater, who served as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. The Gathering of Flags War Memorial ceremony on Flag Hill in the new portion of Oak Grove Cemetery south of U.S.12 begins at 10:30 a.m. A hog roast and luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the American Legion.
AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB will begin live coverage of the Memorial Day ceremonies at 8 a.m. Monday from the Four Corners Park.
One of the largest Memorial Day parades in the area will kick off in Union City at 10:30 a.m. Monday. It will be followed by a service at Riverside Cemetery.
In Bronson, the American Legion will hold a short ceremony at Memorial Park at 9:30 a.m. Monday. A procession will then go to the Bronson Cemetery, and then finish at St Mary’s Cemetery.
Quincy will be having their Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m., starting at the Quincy American Legion post on U.S.12 to Lakeview Cemetery on West Street.
