BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Quick work by Bronson firemen early Wednesday protected a 2-story house and other buildings while a nearby semi-truck and trailer were destroyed in a blaze at 1016 Weaver Road. The situation was complicated by some live Consumers Energy power lines over the trailer that burned through and were lying on the ground hampering the firefighting efforts.
The gutted truck cab and trailer were engulfed in flames when firemen reached the scene in Bronson Township. Firefighters wet down two other semitrailers and saved the home and an outbuilding that were within 20 feet of the flames. It happened at the Randy Hollister residence where Randy and his wife were able to escape without injury after they woke up and heard some popping noises outside and left the house shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday.
It’s believed an electrical system short sparked the blaze in the semi, which was last driven on Memorial Day. The property loss was estimated $17,000. The truck and trailer were insured.
Bronson City Police and Michigan State Police assisted with traffic control. Firemen were on the job for nearly an hour and a half.
