COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Officials with Michigan’s K-12 public schools looking for more money from Lansing could be encouraged by action taken yesterday by lawmakers. A joint state House-Senate conference committee approved an amended education budget for Fiscal 2016.
MIRS News reports that the $13.9 billion so called “School Bus” gives districts between $70 and $140 more per pupil from current funding levels. For the Coldwater School District, that could mean an increase of between $200,000 and $400,000 per year.
In addition, there would be a $70 million increase for at-risk school funding, and a $50 million “set aside” for the financially ailing Detroit Public Schools.
Both chambers will vote on the budget later this week.
