COLDWATER (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, the Coldwater Cardinals Boys Golf team shot their best score of the season Friday in the Division 2 State Finals, leaving Coldwater in a tie for seventh place out of 15 teams following the first day of competition at Michigan State’s Forest Akers East Golf Course. Coldwater’s score was 313 while first place DeWitt shot 290, just two over par for the entire team. Coldwater was led yesterday by Cameron Ruge with a 76, Nathan Waterbury shot a 78, Nolan Duda carded a 79, Keagan Dwyer had an 80, and Stephen Boston rounded out the scoring with an 81. The second and final round of the tournament is happening today on the East course once again.
Today, Branch County high school baseball and softball fans are cheering on the local teams that are playing in the MHSAA Regionals, hoping to advance to next Tuesday’s State Tournament Quarterfinals. In Division Two baseball and softball, it’s Coldwater at the Edwardsburg Regional. The baseball Cardinals face Stevensville Lakeshore in the semifinals while in softball, Coldwater starts off against St. Joseph. In Division Three baseball and softball, Quincy is in Lansing for the Regional hosted by Lansing Catholic. In baseball, the Orioles have a semifinal game vs. Parchment while there’s a county matchup in softball as Quincy takes on Bronson in the semifinals. And in Girls soccer, two time Division Two state champion Gull Lake won their Regional Championship match last night at Vicksburg with the Blue Devils beating Holland Christian 5-1. Gull Lake will take on DeWitt next Tuesday in the state semifinals. Meanwhile, in Division 3, the season ended for Jackson Lumen Christi as the Titans lost 2-0 to Flint Powers in their Regional title game at Williamston.
