BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Students at Harper Creek High will paint the school rock to honor one of their own who died yesterday in a violent crash that left another classmate in critical condition and there’s a Branch County connection to the story. No names have been released. All we know is that they were 15 and 16, best friends and student athletes at Harper Creek.
Emmett Township Public Safety says they were returning home after an overnight stay in Coldwater when the 16-year-old driver lost control of his P.T. Cruiser on Verona Road and struck a tree just before 8 a.m. Sunday. He died at the scene. The 15-year-old suffered extensive injuries and was admitted to Bronson Hospital in critical condition.
Police believe speed may have been a factor.
