COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While some industry analysts said gas prices had peaked earlier this spring, Memorial Day but they have jumped again to just below $3 a gallon at most stations in Branch County and across Southwest Michigan. That makes it a spike of at least 40 cents a gallon in the Coldwater area since the beginning of the week.
GasBuddy’s Patrick Dehaan says crude prices bumped up a little mid-week and there are ongoing refinery issues, but crude and gasoline supplies remain way above last year’s levels and he’s not sure the hikes are justified. He calls it a real “head scratcher”.
The average price nationwide is $2.76 per gallon. In Michigan the average is $2.92 per gallon.
