UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Authorities say a 26-year old Union City man suffered multiple stab wounds early today after he broke into a home in Burlington Township. Troopers from the Coldwater State Police Post arrested the man after finding him walking on M-60 near Union City. Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home invasion in-progress shortly after 3 a.m. in the 3,000 block of 9 1/2 Mile Road.
Deputies were told the suspect was an ex-boyfriend of one of the residents. The 4 people in the house said they were asleep when the break-in happened, waking them up and one of them began to struggle with the Union City man who was stabbed with a kitchen knife and then fled the scene. Deputies called in a K-9 for a track which was unsuccessful due to the heavy rainfall. A short time later, State Police Troopers made the arrest.
The suspect was treated by Marshall Ambulance and then transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, where he’s listed in stable condition. Deputies say they’ll be seeking charges of First Degree Home Invasion.
