ASHLEY, IN (WTVB) – Authorities in Northeast Indiana have recovered a getaway vehicle following the armed robbery in Steuben County yesterday of the Farmers State Bank in Ashley. However, the three suspects in the holdup that occurred around 8:30 a.m. remain at large.
No customers were inside the bank during the robbery and no bank employees were injured. An undetermined amount of cash was taken. The bandits escaped in a blue colored Ford Explorer and were last seen heading north on County Road 400 West.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department provided a pair of photographs of the Explorer which was found abandoned near a private lake down a lane off Fox Lake Road. Police say the alert owner of the property where the car was located called authorities to report sighting the Explorer. It’s believed the suspects got into another vehicle.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to look at the suspect vehicle photographs and report if they observed that vehicle or its occupants in the Ashley area or witnessed unusual activity or driving behavior yesterday morning regardless of vehicle description to also call the Sheriff’s Department via communications at 260-665-3131 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-600-4258 or 260-668-STOP (7867).
