COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A former school board member will be filling an upcoming vacancy on the Coldwater Board of Education. The school board met last night in special session to interview 4 candidates who applied to fill the vacancy that will be created when current Board President Robin Iveson retires at the end of the month.
After the interviews, the board voted 4-2 in favor of selecting Dr. Ron Lanford. He was appointed to the Board in August of 2013 to complete the term of Rick Gates but Lanford failed to win a full term to the Board when he lost out in the election last November. Getting the other 2 votes from the Board last night was David Malott. Also questioned at last night’s session were Steve Rutz and Chad Johnson. Rutz was also an unsuccessful write in candidate in November.
Lanford will be sworn into office at the Board’s July 13th meeting. He will serve until the November 2016 school board election and if he chooses to run again and wins that election, he would fill out the final two years of Iveson’s 6-year term.
