COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There will be a special community celebration tomorrow afternoon for a woman known by many as “The Grand Lady of Tibbits” or “Miss Republican Party” for Branch County. Mary Smith of Coldwater will turn 100 years old next Tuesday, but her family is hosting an open house in her honor Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Dearth Center at the Branch County Fairgrounds.
Over the years Mary has been involved in a number of community projects, including the restoration of the Tibbits Opera House. She served as co-chair of the restoration campaign for 10 years and donated a substantial amount of money to help construct a handicap accessible restroom at the theatre. She was also named Branch County Republican of the Year in 1985, serving on many state and local committees.
Mary Smith turns 100 on Tuesday, June 23, 2015.
