COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The future location of the Branch County Animal Control Shelter remains a question mark as officials ponder their best options in the aftermath of a fire that gutted much of the shelter nearly two months ago. County Administrator Bud Norman updated County Commissioners Wednesday on his latest discussions with the county’s insurance agents.
According to Norman, they have finished their assessment of the damage to the building but are still reviewing the property contents of the shelter, waiting for their listing to be returned by the appraisers. Norman said once all the figures become available, commissioners can consider the financial differences on rebuilding at the current site south of Quincy or opting for relocation. A new site means the county would likely sacrifice some of the available compensation on the damages.
Since the May 28, 2015 blaze, a temporary impound has been set up at the Branch County Jail while also assisting the county are the Humane Societies of Branch County and St. Joseph County.
