BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police at the Coldwater Post say a 14-year old girl was struck by an SUV last night on U.S. 12 in Branch County after she intentionally walked onto the highway in front of traffic. Troopers say the woman driving the car west of Bronson nearly avoided hitting the teenager but still grazed the girl, knocking her down just west of Weaver Road.
State Police say the driver stopped and checked on the condition of the victim as did several other passing motorists before Bronson Fire Department first responders arrived to provide the initial patient care. The girl was taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County for treatment of non-life threating injuries.
U.S. 12 was shut down in the area for 40 minutes following the accident that occurred around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night.
