COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Police say one of their staff sergeants had to be treated at the Community Health Center of Branch County today after an unruly suspect spit at his face with blood from the man getting into the officer’s eye. Police say the incident occurred after the 23-year old man had been arrested for disorderly conduct related to a civil dispute over property at Marshall and Liberty Streets in Coldwater.
After being placed in the back seat of the patrol car, the suspect injured himself thrashing about, cutting his head. It was when Sgt. Dave Crilly was attempting to provide aid to the man to make sure he didn’t sustain even more serious injuries that police say he spit at Crilly.
City Police will be requesting that the suspect be charged with felonious assault on a police officer and two counts of resisting and obstructing in addition to disorderly conduct. The arrest was made around 5:45 a.m. Monday. City Police were assisted by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department.
