COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – This Thursday, August 13, is the last chance to purchase school supplies at area Dollar Tree stores to benefit the families of military personnel served by Operation Homefront’s Back-to-School BrigadeTM program. Determined to ensure that thousands of military families have a prosperous back-to-school season, Operation Homefront and Dollar Tree Inc. (NASDAQ: DLTR) partner through this program to provide military families with school supplies that Dollar Tree customers donate.
More than $5 million worth of school supplies were provided to more than 30,000 military children last year. Now in the seventh year of partnership between Dollar Tree and Operation Homefront, the Back-to-School Brigade™ depends on the continued generosity of Dollar Tree patrons to support our military families, who serve to defend our freedom and way of life.
“With a new school year fast approaching and one more week to go in this year’s Back-to-School BrigadeTM collection period, it is fitting to reflect upon how we help families who are dealing not only with frequent deployments and other stresses of military life but also with very tight budgets,” Operation Homefront President & CEO John I. Pray Jr. said. “Thanks to the generous patrons of Dollar Tree stores, together we are able to make a significant contribution to the families of those who tirelessly serve our nation.”
“Dollar Tree is a proud national sponsor of Back-to-School BrigadeTM,” Dollar Tree spokeswoman Chelle Davis said. “We are honored to once again partner with Operation Homefront and thank our customers for their continued generosity and support.”
The Back-to-School BrigadeTM has been collecting school supply donations since July 6 at Dollar Tree stores nationwide. One may donate at any Dollar Tree store, including the one located at East Chicago Street in Coldwater.
This year’s goal is to collect ample school supplies to meet the seasonal needs of more than 29,000 military schoolchildren. As the Aug. 13 collections deadline has neared, Operation Homefront has already begun distributing school supplies at its Back-to-School BrigadeTM events held across the country.
A national nonprofit, Operation Homefront leads more than 2,500 volunteers with nationwide presence who provide emergency and other financial assistance to the families of service members and wounded warriors. Operation Homefront has provided assistance to thousands of military families since its inception in 2002.
