COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Long time Branch County Veteran’s Counselor Charles Scott was the recipient of a special honor last night to highlight the Veteran’s Day program at the Branch County Fair. Scott was presented the Branch Area Marine Corps League 2015 Patriotic Citizens Award. Scott, who served in the Army from 1979 to 1992, has been the county’s Veteran’s Counselor since 2003.
Last night’s featured guest speaker was retired Army Command Sgt. Major Mike Wilson, who is a regional coordinator for the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency in Sturgis as well as a deputy commandant at the Howe Military Academy. Wilson joined the Marine Corps League in praising Scott for his tireless dedication to his job, noting Scott’s frequent 80-plus hours spent weekly in his office serving veterans.
After accepting the award, Scott said serving veterans, the spouses of veterans, and the children of veterans is an honor. Scott detailed the importance of his post when he told the story of a recent appointment with a veteran who visited his office and was crying because he was homeless and they were able to help him out. Scott for many years organized the Branch County Fair Veterans Day program, which wasn’t held in 2014 but going forward was taken up this year by the Branch Area Marine Corps League Detachment 763.
Today it’s Senior Day at the Fair with the Senior Citizen’s program at the Dearth Center at 1 p.m. this afternoon. Tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the amphitheater, it’s the Off Road Demolition Derby.
The Republican Fair Booth Question of the Day yesterday asked “Do you agree with Michigan U.S. Senators Stabenow and Peters both voting recently to continue funding to Planned Parenthood?”. 69 indicated No and 26 said Yes. The question for today is “Do you feel that Hillary Clinton is trustworthy and honest?”.
