COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Today is National Senior Citizens Day and the Branch County Elder Abuse Prevention Coalition has been active on informing the public on issues of fraud and abuse. The Coalition is a group comprised of area public safety, financial and senior service organizations and next Wednesday, August 26, they’re sponsoring a program in Coldwater focusing on how safety begins with planning ahead.
Branch County Probate Judge Kirk Kashian will be at the Burnside Senior Center to discuss the legal alternatives of Guardianship, Conservatorship and Powers of Attorney including the legal requirements for each option, formal or informal, and whether it is necessary to go to Court. Kashian will explain how these alternatives may be used to provide a safe network of support when someone is unable to make informed decisions. The Branch County Elder Abuse Prevention Coalition says you can call 517-278-SAFE for community resources.
Next week’s program with Judge Kashian is from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Burnside Senior Center and you can RSVP to 517-279-6565.
It was on August 19, 1988 that President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation declaring August 21 at National Senior Citizens Day to support, honor and show appreciation to our seniors and to recognize their achievements and the contributions they make to our communities.
