LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Education will reduce the length of the M-STEP student assessment for next year. There will be 8 fewer hours of M-STEP testing time for high school juniors, while students in 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th grades will have each of their tests shortened by 2.5 hours. The changes come amid complaints from some students and teachers that last year’s test couldn’t be finished in the time allotted, as well as the state’s adoption of the SAT as its free college entrance exam for 11th graders. The M-STEP replaced the MEAP test for student assessment this year.
