COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, there was a limited varsity schedule yesterday that included Union City Boys cross country with the Chargers finishing eighth out of 8 schools competing at Three Rivers in the Big Hill Invitational. Pacing Union City was Grant Gay who was 33rd out of the 87 runners in the field.
In junior varsity volleyball on Tuesday, Coldwater won a quad meet at Bronson, beating Centreville 2-1 before defeating Bronson 2-0 in the finals. Leading Coldwater with 12 kills was Malorie Rzepka while Emily Smoker had 19 assists, Carlie Wilson had 16 digs and Samantha Rodesiler had 6 aces.
In Coldwater freshman volleyball, the Lady Cardinals finished first Monday in a 12 team tournament at Vicksburg, downing Three Rivers in the finals. Coldwater also won a tournament to open the freshman season last Friday at Comstock.
Today in high school sports, in boys soccer, it’s Coldwater’s home opener with the Cardinals taking on Hastings with the JV match at 5 p.m. followed by the Varsity at 6:45 p.m. Also in varsity boys soccer, Quincy has a 5:30 p.m. match at Marshall. In boys tennis, it’s Coldwater at the Holt Triangular while Bronson is at Bridgman. In girls golf, Coldwater plays in the first Interstate Eight Conference Jamboree of the season hosted by Harper Creek at Binder Park. And the swimming program at Coldwater High School debuts tonight with the Girls Varsity team on the road for a meet at Adrian.
