COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, last night in volleyball, Coldwater dropped its home opener, losing 3-1 to Holt. The Lady Cardinals took the first set 25-18 but then Holt swept the next 3 to win the match 25-20, 25-17, 25-19. Coldwater’s record on the season slips to 4-6-4. The Lady Cardinals are off now until September 10 when they play at Adrian.
Coldwater won both of last night’s reserve matches 2-0. In the junior varsity action, Darlene Horn had 7 digs and 6 aces, Emilee Smoker had 7 assists, and Malorie Rzepka and Kaci White each had 5 kills. In the freshman victory, Jordan Clemens had 6 kills and 7 assists, Anna Tappenden had 4 digs and Mya Tom had 3 blocks.
Monday night in varsity boys soccer, Quincy lost 8-0 at Jackson Northwest. The Orioles, now 0-3, play their next match Thursday night at home against Hillsdale.
The Coldwater JV boys soccer team last night improved to 5-0, winning on the road with an 8-0 victory over Chelsea. Dominick Kelly, Nasser Nagi and Mohsen Saleh led the scoring for the Cardinals with 2 goals apiece. Shadi Alisaid and Shuaib Aljabaly each added a goal, while Anas Asker had 4 assists on the night. Coldwater outshot Chelsea 18-3 while in goal, Alex Schaale had one save and Mohammed Salem added 2 saves.
Today in high school sports, in Girls golf, Coldwater plays in the Sturgis Invitational at Klinger Lake Country Club while in volleyball, Union City has a tri-match at home with Colon and Climax Scotts.
