COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With success being overwhelming for the Coldwater Farmers Market, Coldwater City Council has given the Corner Market approval to extend the market into a post-season till the second Saturday in October. The market has been held every Saturday from the first weekend in July from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the four corners in downtown Coldwater featuring live music and a large variety of vendors.
“The market is averaging about 750 people a week with the highest attendance several weeks at close to 1,000 people,” said Courtney Dirschell, committee member. “This has been far more successful than any of us could have anticipated.” The market, which is based on organic practices by the vendors combines a mix of fruit, vegetable, baked good items along with handmade items using organic materials.
The Market Committee is also considering a pre-season next spring starting in the middle of May. “The mission of the market is to provide high quality fruits and vegetables with farmers who are proud of their practices and are knowledgeable about their products,” said Christian Arnold of Pure Earth. “Our goal is to increase access of healthy food for our community, as well as a social aspect and sense of community.”
Vendor spots are still available for the fall encouraging the use of local, organically grown products or for the farm to use organic practices with pesticide-free and herbicide-free produce. Vendors can choose to come one week or all of the weeks for a cost of $10 per week.
Generous sponsors for the farmers market are Coldwater Downtown Development Authority and Star of the West. If you’re interested in a sponsorship to help support the market or in vendor information, please call Pure Earth at 517-617-3457.
