COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A charge of using a computer to commit a crime could be a clue as to what brought together a 52-year old former Branch County man and a 14-year old Coldwater boy at a city cemetery early yesterday with the suspect from West Branch accused of sexually assaulting the teenager. Carlo Antonio Sgambelluri II, a native of Bronson, was formally charged yesterday in Branch County District Court.
Coldwater City Police have not released details of how Sgambelluri and the teenager got together before the alleged crime occurred. He is facing one count each of third and fourth degree criminal sexual conduct in addition to the computer crime charge. He was arrested by Michigan State Police around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday after a trooper pulled over his van for a traffic stop along U.S. 12 on the west side of Coldwater with the boy in the vehicle. City Police were called after State Police learned that the teen had been assaulted at a local cemetery.
Sgambelluri is being held on $50,000 bond with his next court date set for September 10, 2015.
