UNDATED (WTVB) – IIn week two of the high school football season Thursday, Quincy lost on the road in their Big 8 opener, falling 22-20 at Springport. The Orioles trailed 14-12 at the half and then the teams traded touchdowns and 2 point conversions in the third quarter before a scoreless final period. Nathan Karney had a pair of touchdown passes for Quincy while Adam Santi scored on a one yard run as the Orioles slip to 1-and-1.
Also in the Big 8, Union City was outscored at home by Concord 44-36. Jalen Boes led the Chargers in defeat with four touchdowns, two on the ground, one through the air and the other on a kick return. The game was tied at 36 all after 3 quarters before the Yellow Jackets pulled out the victory, dropping Union City to 1-and-1.
Bronson slipped to 0-and-2 with the Vikings losing a non-conference game at home to Bridgman 33-22. Bronson quarterback Noah Roberts tossed 3 touchdown passes with Ethan Cossairt on the receiving end for two of the strikes with the other one caught by Branson Thenen.
Last night in 8-Man Football, Tekonsha lost 34-32 at Webberville.
Besides the Thursday night football, the rest of the high school schedule in other sports included Coldwater’s boys tennis team winning 8-0 at Three Rivers as the Cardinals have an unblemished record on the season capturing two tournaments and a pair of meet victories. The Coldwater JV team was a winner yesterday at Vicksburg.
Also in tennis, Bronson played to a 4-4 tie at home against Pennfield.
In volleyball, Bronson yesterday won the Pinconning Invitational, rallying to win the title after starting out the tournament with two losses in pool play. The Lady Vikings, ranked third in the state in Class-C, defeated Petoskey 2-0 in the finals with Bronson’s record on the season now at 14-2.
