COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners today is expected to approve needed repairs to the county’s fire damaged Animal Control Shelter so it can be re-opened on an interim basis while the long term future of the building remains on-hold. Last Thursday, at the commission’s work meeting, the House Committee recommended the full Board give the go-ahead to the interim fix up since the county is looking at combining the animal control facility with a possible new county jail.
Following the blaze in late May at the shelter south of Quincy, much of the burden of caring for stray dogs has fallen on the Humane Society of Branch County while some of the animals have been impounded at the county jail.
Today’s county commission meeting starts at 4 p.m. at the courthouse.
