COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new school year is beginning this morning on this Tuesday following Labor Day in Branch County and across Michigan for most K-12 public school students. It will be a full day of classes to start the 2015-2016 academic year in Coldwater, Quincy, Bronson, and Union City.
There will be some new faces in administrative roles for the Coldwater Community Schools. At the top, Terry Boguth took over as Superintedent from Dr Tina Kerr at the end of August. Kerr took a new position in Lansing, while Boguth also remains as the district’s Chief Financial Officer. Julie Slusher has moved from her role as Coldwater High School Assistant Principal to Principal at Legg Middle School, replacing Jamie Mueller, who’s contract wasn’t renewed by the district. Krista Searles moves from the Lincoln Learning Center and CASL Academy to become Assistant Principal at the high school.
The district also shifted its early release day each week from Wednesday to Friday. Those afternoons allow teachers to get together for in-service education and departmental meetings.
In Quincy, the schools and the village have teamed up to create a series of traffic pattern changes around the school district’s buildings with the goal of providing better safety for students.
