COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, the Coldwater boys soccer team started the post-Labor Day portion of their schedule last night with a 13-0 home win over Quincy. Wageeh Saeed scored 5 goals for the Cardinals, who are ranked #13 in the first Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Division 2 poll of the season. Mana Ahmed had 3 goals and 1 assist, while Brandon Cortes, Hassan Nasser, Azam Ahmed, Talel Alslehay, and Fadel Said also scored. Said, Haroon Aljabaly, and Abdul Haggagi each had one assist, while Waheeb Ahmed had 2 assists, and Ali Naji had 3.
Cameron Barnes got the shutout in goal, as Coldwater outshot Quincy 21-0 to improve to 5-3 on the season. The visiting Orioles slipped to 0-5.
The only other varsity event Tuesday was in volleyball and Union City earned a split last night in a tri-match at Homer. The Lady Chargers beat Jackson Northwest 2-1 before losing 2-0 to Homer. Haley McIntosh had 15 kills on the night, Rachel Wing had 7 blocks, Cassie Thorpe had 25 assists, Emma Hoppe had ten digs, and Haley Harty and Carley Robertson each had 4 aces. Union City’s overall record is now 6-6-1.
Yesterday in boys junior varsity tennis, Coldwater lost at Angola with the Cardinal’s lone point coming from Hernan Ochoa Polanco at third singles.
Today in high school sports, in boys soccer, Coldwater travels to Battle Creek Central with the JV game at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:45 p.m. In boy’s tennis, Coldwater plays at home against Parma Western. In volleyball, it’s Bronson at White Pigeon. And in cross county, Coldwater, Quincy, and Union City run at the Springport Invitational.
