COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, the Coldwater boys soccer team last night picked up its second straight shutout with a 5-0 non-conference win at Battle Creek Central. Mana Ahmed scored 2 goals, while Wageeh Saeed, Yones Mussa, and Hassan Nasser each scored one. With one assist each were Sean Delaney, Waheeb Ahmed, Ali Naji, Fadel Said, and Azam Ahmed.
Balal Nasser had 4 saves in goal as the Cardinals improved to 6-3 on the season. Their next action is Tuesday at Marshall to open Interstate 8 Conference play.
In last night’s JV match, Coldwater blanked Battle Creek Central 7-0. Mohsen Saleh had 3 goals with one goal each for Shadi Alisaid, Hunter Eldridge, Nasser Nagi and Shihab Abduhlrab. The Cardinals outshot the Bearcats 20-2 while Alex Schaale had two saves in goal to help improve the JV record to 6-0.
Last night in volleyball, Bronson won their BCS conference opener 3-0 at White Pigeon. The host Chiefs battled Class-C fourth-ranked Bronson in the opening set before the Lady Vikings prevailed 30-28. Bronson took the next two games 25-17, 25-14. Jill Pyles had 12 kills, Kiera Lasky had 16 digs, and Alexa Ratkowski had 27 assists. Bronson improved their overall record to 15-3.
Yesterday in boys tennis, Coldwater earned a 6-2 Interstate-8 Conference victory at home over Parma Western. Winning at first, second and third singles for the Cardinals were Javier Perez-Marsa, Nate Waterbury and Kumaran Arivoli. Also winning their flights were Nolan Duda and Austin Butler at first doubles, Kam Miller and Shane O’Grady at second doubles, and Nick Galliers and Christian Pine at third doubles.
Coldwater beat Parma Western in the JV match. Winners at second, third, and fourth singles were Kyle Krzyzanski, Sam Morrison, and Hernan Ochoa Polanco. Also posting victories were Dillon Gagnon and Blake Yates at second doubles, Brendan Hanna and Joe Hicks at third doubles and Stuart Sobeske and William Reehl at fourth doubles.
Wednesday in Cross Country, Coldwater ran at the Springport Invitational with the boys team earning Division One runner up honors while the girls team placed seventh. In the boys race, the Cardinals had 51 points while first place Hanover Horton dominated with 32 points. Leading runners for Coldwater were Zach Murphy, Adam Clemens, and Josh Evers. In the Girls competition, Kathy Potter was the top finisher for the Lady Cardinals. Complete scores from the meet have not yet been posted with no results as well for either Quincy or Union City who both were entered in yesterday’s meet.
The Coldwater girls JV golf team played in a jamboree yesterday hosted by Battle Creek Lakeview at the Cedar Farms golf course and came in 3rd place out of 4 teams. Harper Creek won with a 189 total while Coldwater had a team score of 222. Abby Coffing led the way with a 50 followed by Micki Slack with a 53 and Molly Smith had a 57.
Today in high school sports, in volleyball, it’s Coldwater at Adrian. In boys soccer, Quincy has a match at Hanover Horton starting at 5:30 p.m. In Cross Country, Bronson has a dual meet at home against Union City while in boys tennis, Bronson travels to Sturgis to face the Trojans JV squad. There’s reserve football action tonight including Coldwater’s junior varsity and freshman playing at Pennfield. In other JV games, Quincy hosts Jonesville and Union City is at home against Athens.
