KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – Every spring on Mother’s Day weekend in Branch County, thousands of custom car lovers and their owners show up at the Fairgrounds in Coldwater for the annual Swap Meet and Car Show. Come September, many of the same folks make their way to southwest Michigan for the U.S. Nationals North, and the event is back in Kalamazoo this weekend at the Fairgrounds on Lake Street. 2,600 chrome and candy-flake cruisers with an estimated value of $73 million have signed up to be on display.
The cars you see may be pretty impressive, but some of the new features that are making their way to modern automobiles are also pretty amazing. Consider the fact that the industry will make automatic braking systems standard in new cars. It scans the road ahead of you and applies the brakes if needed, often faster than you can. Right now, automatic braking is available on 26% of vehicles but standard on only one percent.
