STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – There was a collision between a car and a horse drawn buggy in the area Friday afternoon with five juveniles riding in the buggy. Fortunately, only one of the young people in buggy ranging in age from seven to 14 years old had to go to the hospital with injuries. The accident occurred in rural Steuben County, Indiana southeast of Angola not far from the Ohio border. Sheriff’s deputies responded around 3:15 pm yesterday to the crash in the 4300 block of South County Road 800 East. According to a news release, 42-year old Micah McKinley was northbound in his 1998 Volkswagen and crested a hill when he saw the horse and buggy in front of him and tried to stop but slid on the wet roadway and struck the rear of the buggy causing it to spin around. The one juvenile who was hurt was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Ft. Wayne for treatment. The rest of the juveniles, all from rural Angola, were checked out at the scene and released. McKinley wasn’t injured. Speed and alcohol were not suspected factors in the accident which remains under investigation.
