COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports from over the weekend, in volleyball on Saturday, Quincy won the Union City Invitational, defeating Centreville 2-1 in the finals. Quincy also defeated Union City 2-1 in the semi-finals and they both had 3-1-1 records on the day.
In Quincy’s title match victory over Centreville, Kenzie Moore had 11 kills, Cailyn Cook and Taylor Todd had 6 digs apiece, Hannah Economou had 3 blocks and Ali Silva had 20 assists. Quincy’s overall record is now 10-4-1.
For Union City, on the day, Haley McIntosh had 38 kills, Rachel Wing had 9 blocks, Haley Harty had 15 digs and 8 aces, and Cassie Thrope had 45 assists. Union City’s season record is 9-7-2.
Also in volleyball, Bronson lost to Harper Creek in the gold division quarterfinals of the Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational. The Lady Vikings had finished first in pool play when they split with Harper Creek. Alexa Ratkowski had 79 assists on the day, Allison Sikorski had a team-high 26 digs and Kirin Cekander led the way in kills with 21.
In junior varsity volleyball, Coldwater finished 2nd in the Harper Creek Invitational Saturday, losing to Marshall in the finals. The Lady Cardinals went 10-4 on the day. Samantha Rodesiler lead the way with 30 kills, 25 digs, and 14 aces. Emilee Smoker had 48 assists and 21 digs, Malorie Rzepka had 39 kills and 49 digs, and Avery Milnes had 33 assists and 25 digs.
In boys cross country Saturday, Coldwater finished first at the Centreville Invitational. Winning medals for the Cardinals were Zach Murphy, Jordan Parkinson, Matt Sowles and Ethan Aerts. In the underclassmen race, Ben Fagen won the gold medal. In the girls competition, Coldwater’s Kathy Potter and Rene Aerts were both medal winners.
Also in Cross Country, at the Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational, in the Division Two boys race, Bronson finished second while Quincy was sixth while in the girls race, Quincy was third while Bronson did not field a full team. Leading the Bronson boys was Colin Ransbottom with a 7th place finish while for Quincy, Brandon Gary took second place and Nathan Nohr was fifth. In the girls race, Quincy’s Gabby Porter finished seventh while Bronson’s top finisher was Carly Kyle in 27th place.
In girls swimming, Coldwater took seventh place in the Spartan Relays at Battle Creek Lakeview. The Lady Cardinals best finish on the day was fifth place in the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Heather Neitzka, Kory Ulrich, Erica Rodgers and Jayda Kelly.
In junior varsity tennis, Coldwater placed fourth Saturday at the Portage Central Quad. Winning points for the Cardinals were Sam Morrison and Hernan Ochoa Polanco at third and fourth singles.
Today in high school sports, in volleyball, Coldwater plays at home against Edwardsburg, in boys tennis, it’s Coldwater at Portage Northern, and in girls Golf, Coldwater competes in the Jackson Lumen Christi Invitational.
